CNN heroes award is prestigious award being awarded since 2007. Every year out of 10,000 independent nominations made globally, CNN selects 25 of them as global Heroes. Out of the 25 Heroes, 10 of them are selected by an independent panel judge who do no belong to CNN, called Blue Ribbon panel . The blue ribbon panel comprises world famous eminent personalities like Mr. Collin Powel , Mr.  Mohammad Ali etc.

The top 10 selection was announced on Thursday, September 23rd at 1pm ET on cnn website, www.cnn.com (11.15 pm in Nepal)

Only those chosen as the Top 10 CNN Heroes are eligible for voting, in an online poll that  began simultaneous with the announcement.  The individual who receives the most online votes will be revealed as the ?CNN Hero of the Year? during the global telecast, ?CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute,? which airs Thursday, November 25th at 8pm ET on the global networks of CNN.

CNN Hero Award is given to those eminent personalities who make outstanding contribution in social, political, health, human rights and environment related issues. For the year 2010 hero award, CNN has nominated Ms. Anuradha Koirala, chairperson of Maiti Nepal in the  "Protecting the powerless category" for her dedication and contribution to women and children related issues, and most importantly in the prevention of trafficking within and from Nepal.

CNN Heroes is an annual event that started in 2007 .It honours people who have significant contribution in the society. It is an open forum where people can nominate their heroes from all parts of the world and vote for their recognition.

In 2007 AD, Mr. Pablo Fajardo of Ecuador was awarded with the CNN Hero Award in " Fighting for Justice Category" for making remarkable contribution in environmental conservation.

In 2008 AD, Ms. Liz McCartney was honored with the award for her dedication to helping Hurricane Katrina survivors in ST. Bernard Parish, New Orleans in  USA.

In 2009 AD,  Mr. Efren Penaflorida of Philippines  got the award for educating the poor children .

This year, those who will be selected in top 10 list and will receive the highest number of on line votes will be lucky winner of the award.
